Professional Liability

In the area of legal malpractice, we have represented both in-state and out-of-state law firms and attorneys in a wide range of complex and high-exposure cases involving claims arising from the handling of litigation, trial practice, real estate transactions, probate matters, fee disputes and commercial transactions. In addition to the representation of legal professionals, our attorneys are often retained to provide expert witness services on behalf of title insurance, professional malpractice carriers and malpractice attorneys. Our attorneys are also called upon to provide ethics counseling to attorneys. We have also provided counseling, as well as litigation expertise, concerning disputes between and among existing, terminated or departing members of law firms. Many of our attorneys have gained valuable experience with professional liability matters through service on court-appointed committees such as the fee arbitration committees and ethics committees in various counties throughout New Jersey.

ShapiroCroland also handles claims involving the liability of accountants, insurance agents, real estate brokers, environmental engineers and other professionals. In such instances, we have been called upon to defend such professionals both in the civil litigation context and before professional licensing bodies with regard to malpractice claims, licensure issues, and ethics complaints. We are also often called upon to represent aggrieved parties asserting malpractice. In such instances, we have pursued with success claims relating to breach of professional duty and the standard of care applicable to such industries, breach of contract, and claims of misrepresentation and other tort claims.
